Starting Thursday May 3rd, 2007 the Moraga Disc Golf Club will host a weekly handicapped tournament at around 5:00-5:30 pm.
The weekly will cost $5 - with $1 going to an Ace Pool, $4 of each entry fee paid out to the top 3 to 7 players, depending upon how many people enter each week. It takes 2 weeks to establish a player handicap, so you can play for free while you do. However, you will have the option to put in the $5 to have a shot at the Ace pool.
Once established, your handicap is based on the difference between your average score and even par 54, multiplied by 80%, to take out your highest scores. The handicap levels the playing field, and actually benefits beginners who are always improving on their handicap.
Example: Player A shoots rounds of 58, 60, 56. The average is 56, substacted this from par 54 equals -2, multiplied by 80% equals -1.6. Player A's handicap is -1.6. This amount will be subtracted (because it is negative) from Player A's next score to determine the Net score and weekly winners.
