Greg Battle Weekly results
Wednesday - August.23.06
Fresh off the San Francisco Safari, we had a good turn-out of 19 players with 17 contributing to the pools. We also had the most "Gregs" ever, with three, and two ended up in the money. Play got started very early tonight at 4:35 P.M. and was completed by 8:15 P.M.
The winner was a "non-Greg",
Mark "M.P." Pelzner, who shot a nice 60 (net 48.27) round - way to go deep under your handicap!! The Gregs took second and third, with Greg "Tiger Woods" Randolph taking second with a +1 55 (net 50.4) and Gregg "2 disc" LaComb in third with a 52 (net 50.67). It was unfortunate that neither of the Gregs made the Safari, but they made up for it by taking home some Moraga cash - nice shooting. This week's pay-out was
$26.00 for 1st, $16.00 for 2nd,
$9.00 for 3rd place. Thanks to everyone for making our weekly such a fun event!
Another Big Weekly results
Tuesday - August.15.06
It was a nice cool evening for disc golf, and as a result we had another record tournament turn-out of 24 players, with 23 contributing to the pools. It was great to see a lot of the local players out as it increases the excitement and potential pay-out for all involved. Play got started very early tonight at 4:25 P.M. and was completed by 8:10 P.M.
The local "bag-tag" boys took the cash this week, with
Craig "big slinger"
Schott taking first place with a -5 round (net 50.6), and
Brian "shooting like a pro"
Henderson taking second also with -5 (but a higher net of 51.00 as he has played many more tournaments) and
Ron "the legend"
Junker taking third with a very solid -4 round (net 51.94). With so many players playing this week, we paid down to fourth place with
Brant "get'er done"
Willis taking it with a 53 (net 52.57). This week was the opposite of last week, with the low gross scores placing very high. Last week it was about players breaking out and having great rounds (well below their averages and handicaps)... so turn about is fair play and again reinforces the fact that those players who play well on any given week will be rewarded and take the cash. Great shooting guys!!
This week's pay-out was
$31.00 for 1st, $20.00 for 2nd,
$13.00 for 3rd place and
$5.00 for 4th place. Thanks to everyone for making our weekly such a fun event!
Course Work Day
Saturday - August.12.06
This weekend a number of local players came out to help move holes #2 and #3 to their new positions. As many of you are aware, the Parks & Rec Department had asked the club to help them address neighbor complaints, and so with their approval our layout was changed. In addition to moving the baskets, new tee positions were also developed (as you can see from this picture of Brian H. making tee pad #3 a nice level surface).

Once the tee pad was done for #3, we then moved the basket from hole #3 to replace the vandalized basket for #2, and moved it left towards what was the 3rd tee. Next we dug out the broken basket for old #2 and Ron, Bill and Chika helped move it to its new position across the road and closer to the 4th tee. This was not easy as it had a LARGE amount on cement attached to make it harder to move/break. Our hope is to replace this basket in the near future (through a donation to the course) at which time it will be sleeved to allow for alternate basket placements. This is also what is in store for the first hole which only needs to have a new sleeve to create an alternate (and closer to the second tee) placement.

Overall the work was completed within a few hours and we look forward to the feedback from members and tournament players alike in the weeks ahead.
Thanks to Brian, Bill, Chika, Ron, Dustin and Scott who participated in this work day - we couldn't do it without your help!!

It was a perfect night for disc golf, and as a result we had a record
tournament turn-out of 24 players, with 22 contributing to the pools. Unfortunately no one hit an Ace, so our Ace pot continues to grow and now $217.00. It was great to have so many players as it increases the excitement and potential pay-out for all involved. Play got started tonight at 4:50 P.M. and was completed by 8:10 P.M.

There were a couple of new faces in the winner's circle this week as Sebastian Castro took first place with even par round, over 7 shots better than his handicap for a net 46.4 - way to go Sebastian!! James Benner also shot well under his handicap and took second place with a net 46.9, and Brian "shooting like a pro" Henderson took third with an amazing 8 down round of 46, net 47.5 - nice shooting guys. With so many people we were able to pay 4 places, and tying for that was Chase Corcorran and Bill Spencer who both had a net round of 49.2.
This week's pay-out was $29.00 for 1st, $20.00 for 2nd, $12.00 for 3rd place and $2.50 for each 4th place finishers. Thanks to everyone for making our weekly such a fun event!
Note: We will be having a work day this Saturday (8/12) at 10:00 AM to move the first 3 holes - if you can volunteer, bring a shovel and join in...
Course Changes Coming!
Thursday - August.03.06
As many of the locals already know, the Moraga Disc Golf course will be going through some relatively major changes in a few weeks. The changes involve the placement of
holes #2 and #3 (and potentially
hole #1) at the request of the Moraga Parks & Rec. department. The club was asked recently to come up with a strategy on how best to facilitate the movement of hole #3, due to numerous complaints from Moraga Rd. residents, and the result is outlined below.
After gathering feedback from the original course designers and numerous seasoned players, the consensus was to switch holes #2 and #3, which would effectively eliminate the issue that caused the complaints while continuing to utilize as much of the open real estate as possible. The tee for hole #2 would be moved down the hill slightly (towards the current #3 basket) and the #2 basket would be repositioned closer to the current tee for #3. The tee for hole #3 would moved closer to the OB fence (now right of the current #2 basket) and would shoot down the ridge towards either a short position (labeled 3A) or a longer position (labeled 3B) - it remains an open question as to which position will be used first. Additionally, moving the basket of hole #1 would improve the overall course flow and provide improved safety for all players as they start their round.
These changes are scheduled to be completed the week-end of 8/12-8/13, and
we are looking for volunteers!! The holes will probably be out of play for that entire week-end (as the cement dries and baskets/tees are moved). The club will provide financing for the materials and be repaid with weekly tournament proceeds and donations.

If you have any comments or suggestions, please feel free to pass them along via
email.
Also if you are interested in assisting in the move of these holes, please contact
Scott Fuller asap - to provide for better planning and a smoother transition.
Thanks in advance for all that volunteer!!
Welcome-Back Weekly results
Tuesday - August.01.06
The tempature has cooled down and so this week's
tournament welcomed back many players (including the Berkeley crew) who have missed the last couple events. This week's tournament had 19 players, with 17 contributing to the pools, and as no one has hit an ACE yet the pool is now up to $195.00. The wind was down and as such the scores were lower than in past hot or windy weeks. Play got started tonight at 4:50 P.M. and was completed by 7:50 P.M.
Scott "the TD"
Fuller played a nice 2 down round (net 47.49) to take first place, and
Brant "never missed a tourney yet"
Willis took second with an even better 4 down (net 49.38).
Jesse "the kid"
Wisecarver shot 57 (net 50.73) and just edged
Chika "king of the forehand"
Nii who shot 1 under (net 50.76) for third. Handicaps continue to play a increasingly big part in each weekly's outcome - so it now takes an extraordinary round to win the cash.
This week's pay-out was
$26.00 for 1st, $16.00 for 2nd and
$7.00 for 3rd place finishers. Thanks to everyone for making our weekly such a fun event!
